Beginning of Her Career
She graduated from Northwest High School in 1977 and married her high school partner. They settled permanently in Ohio and had three children, and now, at fifty-five, she is a grandmother. After marriage, she could not continue her higher education and instead took up odd jobs as a sales clerk and shop assistant to support her family.
After having children, she became a housewife. She once got caught pneumonia and devoured dozens of romance novels in a bedridden state that her sister brought for her. The avid reading of novels awakened in her the desire to write novels. She decided to write novels and wrote ten manuscripts in five years.
Academic Degree
Foster graduated from Northwest High School in 1977. After that, she decided to marry her high school boyfriend. They settled in Ohio and had three children, so because of the responsibilities that came with her marriage and children; she couldn’t advance toward greater studies in any college or university.
Career as an Author
In 1996, Harlequin acquired the copyright to her first novel, Impetuous. She also launched the Harlequin Temptation Heat and Temptation Blaze series. Since then, she has been writing at a rate that has increased exponentially up to ten novels a year.
In addition to Harlequin, she has worked for Kensington, Berkley, and St.Martin publishing house. Most of her written work is in serial format and focuses on a specific family tree. In 1998 she began her first love series, The Winston Brother.
The characters in Foster’s novels are primarily alpha males and females. However, foster believes in the human ability to take matters into their own hands even when all hope is lost. The series’ central male characters, Dare, Trace, and Jackson, are undercover mercenaries with a single-minded drive to complete their mission. Foster says her favorite novelist is Kresley Cole, author of the Immortal series. Other important influences on her work include Linda Howard, Julie Garwood, Catherine Coulter, Jayne Ann Krentz, and Johanna Lindsey. In 2007, she temporarily diverted her attention from direct romance writing and produced an urban fantasy series, Servant, under the L. Foster name.
In addition to her other accomplishments, Foster is recognized for her significant support towards amateur authors struggling in the novel-writing process.
She started a competition to allow others to be rated by her. As a result, more than fifteen participants published their works through their connections. In 2005, her novel Jamie became a national bestseller; she reached the top of the New York Times bestseller list.
